The Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 is the most significant overhaul of equality legislation in UK history. The aims of the Equality Act 2010 are to:
• review, modernise and simplify discrimination law
• extend some existing discrimination law and
• bring into line provisions defining indirect discrimination.
The Equality Act 2010 brings 9 separate pieces of legislation into one single Act, simplifying and strengthening the law in important ways to help tackle discrimination and inequality.
The Equality Act 2010 extends the law covering discrimination because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. These are known in the Act as “protected characteristics”.
The Equality Act 2010 is a large and complex piece of legislation and we are able to provide courses covering many areas of it. Please contact us for more information info@equalityscotland.org.uk
