Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007
Awareness Raising Course for those Working with Older People.

The course is designed for those who are working directly with older people and/or their carers, in community, day care, residential, or hospital settings.
Course outline
This course will raise awareness about the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 in the context of working with older people. It will explain the definitions used in the Act; the different types of harm that have been identified; the prevalence of harm occurring among older people; and how to recognise signs of harm.
It will cover appropriate responses to suspicions, or disclosure of, harm, including staff responsibilities under the Act for sharing information.
Course Outcomes
By the end of the session participants will understand:
• What is meant by the terms “adult at risk” and “harm”
• Different categories of harm and how to recognise these
• Appropriate responses to concerns that an adult is at risk of harm, including conflicts and dilemmas that can arise
• Staff responsibilities for sharing information
